WCM appoints general counsel and COO

West Cumbria Mining has further added to its team aiming to develop a coking coal mine off the west coast of Whitehaven.

Douglas Hall, originally from Edinburgh, takes on the new position of general counsel.

He has more than 30 years’ UK and international legal experience much of which involves mining projects.

During his career, he has held senior positions in major international law firms and in-house.

The company has also re-appointed Simon Zanker to the team as chief operating officer.

Mr Zanker is experienced in the mining industry and has extensive knowledge of WCM’s planned Woodhouse Colliery project.

He has worked in numerous underground coalfields and was formerly a mine manager in a number of former UK collieries.

LEGAL CHALLENGE

WCM added that the permission hearing schedule for 24 May for a legal challenge against the company’s new deep coal mine has been adjourned.

A ‘rolled up’ hearing of the permission and substantive grounds will be heard over three days from 24 to 26 October in the High Court.
