United spuds ASX-1X exploration well at Abu Sennan

United Oil & Gas plc said it started drilling the ASX-1X exploration well in the Abu Sennan licence, Egypt.

Target: United believes there is considerable exploration potential in the Abu Sennan licence (United Oil & Gas)

DRILLING

United holds a 22% working interest in the licence, which is operated by Kuwait Energy Egypt.

Operations began on Saturday (14 August) on the ASX-1X exploration well, which is the company’s second, located some 7km to the north of the producing Al Jahraa field.

The company said that drilling would test a number of stacked reservoir targets.

If successful, the well would take up to 54 days to drill, test and complete.

ASX-1X

ASX-1X is a vertical exploration well targeting a similar structure to the nearby discovery that was recently made at ASD-1X.

Primary targets are in the Abu Roash C and E reservoirs, and secondary targets in the deeper Bahariya and shallower Khoman Formations.

United added it had always highly ranked the ASX prospect among the identified exploration targets in Abu Sennan.

The ASX-1X is expected to be the final well of the 2021 campaign, with longer-term plans for unlocking the additional potential in the Abu Sennan licence currently under discussion.

United’s chief executive Brian Larkin said that there was considerable exploration potential in the Abu Sennan licence.
