United spuds fifth and final 2022 well at Abu Sennan

United Oil & Gas plc’s joint venture partner has spud the fifth and final well for the companies’ 2022 drilling campaign on the Abu Sennan licence, onshore Egypt.

Strategy: ASW-1X was a key exploration well (United Oil & Gas)

ASW-1X EXPLORATION WELL

Operator Kuwait Energy Egypt began drilling ASW-1X exploration well, targeting un-risked mean recoverable resources estimated by United at c. 8 mmbbls gross in multiple reservoirs.

United said that the ASW-1X prospect had been de-risked by the HF36-5X discovery made in 2020, and by 2022 seismic reprocessing on the licence, which provided improved imaging and definition of the ASW targets.

DE-RISKING

Chief executive Brian Larkin added that ASW-1X was a key exploration well that fitted the JV’s exploration strategy of directly targeting significant volumes and for the potential to de-risk similar structures in the same part of the licence.

“In the case of a commercial discovery, ASW-1X would be completed as a production well and, subject to the granting of a development permit, be brought into production thereafter.”
