UK Oil and Gas plc (UKOG) has applied for an environmental permit to explore a proposed new oil well site in Arreton on the Isle of Wight.

If permission is granted, the company aims to operate for three years and to drill an exploratory borehole and one side-track borehole.
The wider area has the appearance of a worked landscape supporting intensive agricultural, large scale renewable energy installations and non-agricultural commercial uses.
The nearest homes are 600 metres away.
PLANS
The proposal comprises a new temporary well site set back 400m from the Newport to Sandown Highway (A3056).
Operations would involve the installation of plant and equipment, well drilling using a drilling rig and well testing.
Natural gas produced during the well testing would be burned in a temporary on-site flare.
Oil, water and surface water produced would be collected and removed from site for further use, treatment or disposal.
UKOG’s application is subject to a public consultation which runs until 9 July 2021.
