UKOG to complete Phase I of 2D seismic ahead of drilling at Basur-Resan JV

UK Oil & Gas plc (UKOG) said that the first tranche of 2D seismic acquisition is due to be completed within Q2 2022 at its Basur-Resan 50% joint venture in Turkey.

Opportunities: UKOG has reviewed a new opportunity to the southeast of the Resan licence (UK Oil & Gas)

SEISMIC

The company holds a non-operated interest with partner and operator Aladdin Middle East (AME).

During August, AME temporarily halted drilling of the proposed Basur-3 (B-3) mechanical sidetrack (B-3S) until acquisition of new seismic over the target area.

UKOG said that Viking Geophysical Services (VGS) was now making good progress on the 2D seismic programme.

DRILLING

The company said that the operations would take into account the winter weather in the Siirt region.

Additionally, the licence area is challenging due to the remote location, rough and steep topography, significant elevation changes and presence of several river gorges and lakes.

The JV will give priority to three lines covering the B-3S area and trajectory, plus the planned new Resan-6 drilling location.

UKOG said it had preferred to drill B-3S before the conclusion of the seismic programme but “in the interests of JV harmony” supported AME’s plan to drill afterwards.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

The JV’s bid for three new licences in last year’s Turkish mini-licence round was unsuccessful.

UKOG added it would continue to look for additional projects in the country and has reviewed a new opportunity to the southeast of the Resan licence.
