UKOG granted approval to drill Basur-3 well

UK Oil & Gas plc (UKOG) has received permission to drill the forthcoming Basur-3 appraisal well located in the Resan licence, Turkey.

Potential: construction of the drilling pad and access road is expected to be completed by the end of May (UK Oil & Gas)

The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources granted approval to UKOG Turkey and its joint venture partner and site operator Aladdin Middle East (AME).

UKOG Turkey, a wholly owned UKOG subsidiary, has a 50% interest in the licence which contains the Basur-Resan oil discovery.

The JV partners will also have to notify the Ministry five days before the actual spud date of Basur-3.

UKOG said that the construction of the drilling pad and access road continued and was expected to be completed by the end of May.

UKOG chief executive Stephen Sanderson commended AME’s efforts in making the application.

“The speedy grant  of drilling consent from the Turkish government further illustrates how oil and gas projects can be pushed ahead more rapidly and with more certainty in Turkey than in the UK onshore, a key enabler for value creation and preservation.”
