UK Oil & Gas plc (UKOG) has found a more powerful perforating gun to test the Pinorova-1 shallow oil exploration well, 6km north of the Basur- oil discovery in Turkey.
UNDERLYING FORMATION
Pinarova-1 is testing whether the active 42˚ API light oil seep, found during 2022 in a seismic shot hole above the Pinarova structure, is connected to an underlying light oil accumulation within the Germik and/or Hoya limestones.
The 50-50 joint venture with Aladdin Middle East (AIM) suspended operations in May after the previously used 4.5-inch perforating guns failed to establish direct contact with the formation through the casing and cement.
This also left untested the “potential” of the zones associated with the 12 hours of strong crude oil odour and oil at surface reported at the start of May.
UKOG today said it had finally located larger and more powerful 7-inch perforating guns, capable of fully penetrating Pinarova-1’s 9⅝-inch casing and cement, available for import into Turkey.
Delivery to the site is being arranged “as soon as possible” for testing to restart.
3D SEISMIC
The company added that new geochemical analyses by APT Ltd showed that the Pinarova mud-pit oil sample and oil samples from the nearby shallow seismic shot-hole seep were a “geochemical close match”.
The company said that they “most likely originate from the same Mesozoic age oil source rock” beneath the general area of the shallow Pinarova structure.
If further testing proves positive, UKOG is considering acquiring a small 3D seismic programme to identify a possible deeper oil pool, seepage/spill being the “most likely primary source of both the seep and Pinarova oils”.
