Tertiary Minerals plc has again been refused a mining concession for its legacy Storuman fluorspar project in Sweden.
DISTRACTION
The Mining Inspectorate initially granted permission for the 2014 application and then overturned its decision following opposition from the Sami Village – reindeer herders – and the County Administration Board (CAB).
Tertiary had argued that the proposed mine workings and reindeer husbandry could both operate.
On appeal from the company the Government in 2023 annulled the refusal adding that the inspectorate should re-examine its decision.
Following the recent refusal, Tertiary today said it would review the decision with its lawyers and decide on any further action.
“It is clear to the company that the Swedish Government does not have a viable mine permitting process,” added executive chairman Patrick Cheetham.
“Fortunately, over time, the company has moved on and this project risks becoming a
distraction for the company which is now fully funded for an exciting programme of copper
exploration in Zambia and Nevada on multiple projects and with strong joint venture partners.”
Since 2008, Tertiary has completed “extensive drilling, metallurgical testwork and resource estimation, as well as a positive economic scoping study” at Storuman.
