Court hearing deferred on challenge to WCM coal mine

West Cumbria Mining Ltd (WCM) said that the rolled-up hearing relating to challenges against the Government’s planning approval for a deep coal mine has been postponed.

RESCHEDULED

The company added it continued to progress towards the pre-start work required, including design, planning, equipment procurement and associated desk-based work.

The hearing, set for 24 to 26 October 2023, will be rescheduled to a later date after judgement on an unrelated case objecting to approval for UK Oil & Gas onshore oil operations at Horse Hill in Surrey.

“The hearing will now be re-scheduled to be heard after judgement has been handed down by the Supreme Court on another case (Finch),” added WCM in its statement.

“At this stage it is unclear how long it will take for the Supreme Court to issue their judgement; however we do not expect the delay to be very significant. “
