Red Rock granted first licence in Côte d’Ivoire

Red Rock Resources plc has been granted its first licence in Côte d’Ivoire with the Djekanou gold project located south of the capital Yamoussoukro.

Plans: to complete a baseline study and start prospecting activity on the granted licence (Red Rock Resources)

SHEAR ZONE

The company’s subsidiary LacGold Resources Sarlu has an initial four years for the licence, covering 344.5 km2, in the department of Djekanou and nearby.

The licence is one of four applications totalling 1,404.86km2 south of the capital.

Further applications for three licences for a combined 1,122.88km2 in the north of the country, take Red Rock’s total area of applications and permits in Côte d’Ivoire to 2,491.3km2.

The company said that each application was located on a known regional shear zone where gold mines were operating and had “significant” artisanal mining within and around it.

EXPLORATION

Chairman Andrew Bell described the process of licence grant in Cote d’Ivoire as “methodical and not usually rapid”.

“Our first two grants have been in the final stage for some weeks, and we are glad to see that the Conseil des Ministres has approved the decree of grant for Djekanou at its meeting on 15 June 2023.

“We will now complete a baseline study, introduce ourselves to the relevant authorities, and start prospecting activity.

“We consider Djekanou and its neighbours highly prospective for gold mineralisation and look forward to beginning exploration with an initial MMI (mobile metal ion) programme over the licence.”
