Dalradian Gold Inc. is awaiting a new date for the public local inquiry on its proposed £750 million gold-silver-copper mine in County Tyrone.
DECISION
The Planning Appeals Commission (PAC) hearing, due to start on 10 September, was deferred following the Water Appeals Commission’s concerns over two applications relating to water abstraction and storage.
Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA)’s letter dated 1 August to the PAC states that Dalradian withdrew the April 2024 abstraction and impoundment licence applications on 26 July and submitted new ones on the same date.
NIEA processed the applications and issued a notice to the company to advertise them for a 28-day period, after which the department will direct the PAC to hold a public local inquiry.
Following the inquiry, the PAC will submit its report and recommendation to the Department for Infrastructure which will make the final decision.
The proposed mine at Curraghinalt near Greencastle in the Sperrin Mountains, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, have received support and opposition.
