Rathlin starts West Newton-A public consultation

Rathlin Energy (UK) Ltd has started a virtual public consultation on the planned West Newton A (WN-A) hydrocarbon field near Hull in East Yorkshire.

Economy: the joint venture partners believe resources at West Newton will replace imported hydrocarbons (Reabold Resources)

PROGRAMME

The PEDL 183 licence contains the West Newton A-1 (WN-A1) discovery well, the A-2 appraisal well, along with the recently drilled B-1Z discovery.

Drill results in December 2020 revealed that the site which hosts the Kirkham Abbey formation could be the largest UK onshore hydrocarbon discovery since the 1970s.

The proposed WN-A and associated work programme would allow testing, appraisal and production from the two existing wells, WN-A1 and WN-A2, with the potential to drill and produce from up to six new oil wells over a 25-year period.

Some 490 tonnes of crude oil are expected to be stored at the site.

ESTIMATES

Estimates for initially in-place hydrocarbons in respect of the Kirkham Abbey formation are:

Base Case: liquids: 146.4 million barrels (mmbbl) of oil initially in-place (OIIP); gas: 211.5 bcf of gas initially in-place (GIIP).

Upside Case: liquids: 283 mmbbl OIIP; gas: 265.9 bcf GIIP.

The public consultation will run before Rathlin submits a planning application to the council.

JOINT VENTURE

The project is run by a joint venture, with Reabold Resources plc holding its interest through its circa 59% share in Rathlin, as well as a 16.665% direct interest in the licence.

Rathlin holds a 66.67% interest and Union Jack Oil plc holds 16.665%.

The JV partners aim to replace imported hydrocarbons by developing indigenous energy sources and contribute to the local economy.
