Power Metal Resources plc said it planned a deep diamond drill campaign following results of RAB drilling at its joint venture nickel and platinum group metals (PGM) project at Haneti, central Tanzania.
POTENTIAL
The 50-hole, 1,965m shallow rotary air blast (RAB) drilling programme was conducted at Mihanza Hill and Mwaka Hill.
Power Metal said that the deeply weathered nature of the rocks intersected by the shallow RAB drilling meant that no fresh unaltered rock or primary nickel sulphide mineralisation was delineated.
However, concurrent surface mapping had identified small scale nickel-copper-magnetite gossanous veins at a new outcrop at Mihanza Hill.
The junior miner added that the project’s geological team considered the discovery substantiated the potential for primary nickel rich sulphide mineralisation within the underlying ultramafic body.
DRILL PROGRAMME
Diamond drilling is planned to a depth of at least 400m to intersect the time domain electromagnetic (TDEM) and magnetic geophysics anomalies.
It will also test for primary sulphide mineralisation and obtain fresh unaltered rock samples for mineralogical analysis.
Power Metal chief executive Paul Johnson said that the design of the diamond drilling programme and appointment of the drilling contractor was underway.
PARTNERS
Power Metal holds a 35% ownership interest in Haneti with 65% held by Katoro Gold plc.
The project covers some 88km north of the capital city Dodoma and comprises tenements (prospecting licences, offers and applications) prospective for nickel, PGMs and gold.
