Power Metal identifies ‘significant’ target at Kisinka

Power Metal Resources plc said it had identified a significant cobalt target at its 70% owned Kisinka copper-cobalt project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Upgrade: Power Metal will apply for a production licence for the Kisinka project in the DRC (Power Metal Resources)

Kisinka is located some 30km east of the regional capital of Lubumbashi in the southern part of the Katangan copper belt.

Assay results from pitting and mapping exploration completed earlier this year show copper values from soils between 217 and 462 ppm in varying anomalous zones.

The company now intends to conduct a geophysics survey before starting a drill programme and apply to upgrade its exploration licence to a production licence.

Power Metal also plans a ground magnetic survey and a ground electromagnetic survey to generate precise drill targets.

Chief executive Paul Johnson said that the laboratory results provided definitive evidence for the first time of a significant cobalt target at Kisinka and confirmed the extent of the copper targets.

“The prospective ground within the licence covers an area big enough to contain one or more large ore bodies, so we are excited by the potential we have identified.

“The next task will be to drill the anomalies, and to help us target this effectively we will now carry out ground geophysics.”

He added that the zones were open in both directions along strike and that the laterisation and leaching suggested there might be supergene enriched mineralisation at lower levels.

Kisinka is a 50km² licence with 7km of strike along the Roan group of rocks, which hosts most of the DRC’s copper and cobalt mines.
