Mining financier and Western Gold Exploration Ltd’s board director Willie McLucas, whose experience took him to numerous countries across the world has died suddenly aged 67.
Mr McLucas worked in Australia, Bolivia, Chile, France, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Turkey and Zimbabwe.
He established his successful career as a mining financier at Waverley Mining where he developed extensive knowledge of the mining industry from exploration to production in coal, gold and base metals.
Following an early career as a stockbroker and fund manager, Mr McLucas’ first appointment to the board of a listed company was with Perseverance Corporation in Australia.
Perseverance developed the Fosterville mine outside Bendigo in Victoria, Australia.
Latterly, Mr McLucas had been advising the board of Western Gold on its ventures across the Dalradian belt in Scotland.
The company said that he had been “enthused by the potential and possibilities of their prospects”.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, Willie McLucas,” added chairman Harry Dobson.
“On behalf of the company’s board of directors, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the McLucas family”.
William Philip McLucas was born in 1955 and died on 2 July 2022.
