Neptune starts drilling ninth Rӧmerberg production well

Neptune Energy has started drilling on a new production well and plans to increase production further at the joint venture Rӧmerberg oil field in the Rhine Valley, southwest Germany.

RÖMERBERG

The 50-50 JV is between the company as operator and licence owner Palatina GeoCon. 

Holding “significant” reserves, the 5–6 km² oil field was discovered in 2003 and began producing in 2007.

PRODUCTION

The new production well is Neptune’s ninth on the field and is expected to come onstream during Q4 2022.

Average production from the field is approximately 2,000 boepd, and is currently limited to 500 tons of crude oil per day. 

The company added it was in the final stages of an application to increase production from Rӧmerberg.

Once approved, Neptune intends to progress plans to drill additional production wells to develop the reservoir further. 

Rig operator Drilltec expects to reach the final vertical depth of around 2,180 metres in October 2022.

ENERGY SUPPLIES

Neptune’s managing director in Germany, Andreas Scheck said that securing energy supplies was a top priority across Europe and particularly in Germany.

“By unlocking additional supplies of much-needed domestic energy, Neptune is supporting the needs of industry and consumers in Germany.”

Neptune supplies 9% of Germany’s natural gas and 16% of its produced oil, making the company the second largest oil producer and the third largest gas producer in the country.
