Hummingbird Resources plc made progress during the first quarter of 2021 with its environment, social and governance (ESG) initiatives in Mali.
In its production, operational and trading report for the Q1 2021, the miner said it had made particular advances in water infrastructure for several locally supported villages.
Ongoing water rehabilitation at the locally supported villages remains a key focus in general this year.
During Q1, Hummingbird rehabilitated five water pumps at Donsosso, Tekendougou and Guelekoro villages and added a new borehole at Kabaya village.
Other ESG works included:
Tree rehabilitation: plans progressed to have a local village operating a nursery to become a source of trees for the ongoing tree rehabilitation programmes.
Market gardens: work began on rehabilitating the market garden of Tiemba through water improvements and fencing. Hummingbird expects to add another two market gardens it supports during 2021, taking the number from eight to 10.
Beehives: 90% of beehives were colonised during Q1 with commercial sales expected in July.
Hummingbird added that protocols for Covid-19 and overall hygiene were performing well in mitigating and capturing virus spread with strict on-site testing and quarantine procedures.
