Horizonte Minerals plc has chosen MIP Engenharia and Milplan Engenharia to provide the electro-mechanical installation services at its 100%-owned Araguaia nickel project in Brazil.
SPEND
The appointments take the level of committed spend to more than US$400m, with a workforce already mobilising to begin furnace assembly activities on site.
Chief executive Jeremy Martin added that Araguaia remained on schedule for first nickel during Q1 2024.
MIP/MILPAN
Horizonte said that MIP/Milpan had a strong track record and prior rotary kiln-electric furnace (RKEF) experience from Vale’s Onça Puma ferronickel mine and other major mining projects in the Carajas region.
MIP/Milpan has provided access to a skilled workforce, which could be redeployed from projects being completed elsewhere in Pará, further de-risking Araguaia’s development schedule.
