Helium One Global Ltd has begun wireline and initial logging after pulling out the drill string from the hole on the Tai-3 well at Rukwa, Tanzania.
GAS COMPOSITION
The company retrieved the drill pipe and bottom hole assembly, comprising the heavy weight drill pipe and drill collars, from the hole by isolating and repositioning “various components” of the iron roughneck.
Helium One said that the move was not a “long-term solution” adding that the hole conditions remained “good”.
The logging tools from the initial logging run reached 1,430m measured depth, not to total depth at 1,448m MD, after encountering some washouts and ledges in the Lower Karoo.
The company plans to start downhole sampling soon, which if successful, will allow transfer and evaluation of the samples at the wellsite to determine the gas composition.
RIG REPAIR
Helium One is still determining the timelines for a full repair of the Epiroc Predator 220 rig, but the current priority was to complete wireline logging and acquire downhole samples.
Non-executive chairman James Smith described activities at Rukwa as an “incredibly dynamic situation”.
“Since Friday, we have done all we possibly could to move Tai-3 operations forward, and everyone has worked exceptionally hard to get to this point.
“Once we have obtained and assessed downhole samples and determined the extent and timing of the necessary rig repairs, we will be able to provide an updated forward operational programme.”
