Helium One confirms free gas in Jackson-31

Helium One Global Ltd’s joint venture has confirmed free gas after drilling the Jackson-31 well at the Galactica project in Las Animas County, Colorado, USA.

Operator and partner Blue Star Helium drilled to total depth of 1,210 ft (368.8m) measured depth with the well flowing “naturally during drilling” and at TD, demonstrating “strong” reservoir communication.

The well encountered the Lyons formation at 1,153 ft MD and completed 57 ft into the target top of the Upper Lyons Sandstone formation.

No water was encountered while drilling the Upper Lyons.

Helium One said that the “entire” Upper Lyons Sandstone formation and a “significant “portion of the Lower Lyons Sandstone formation is expected to be gas saturated, “suggesting more than 100ft of gas column”.

The company added that the highest quality sandstone at the top of the Upper Lyons appeared to be “well connected” to the entire gas column.

“The well encountered 57ft (17m) gross pay of high-quality (22-26% porosity based on petrophysics from offset wells JXSN-1,-2,-3,-4 and Sate-16), gas-saturated Upper Lyons Sandstone formation.”

Gas samples have sent for laboratory analyses and measurement of helium and CO2 concentrations.

Following successful open hole testing at Jackson-31, the well will be completed before being tied-in to production facilities.

The JV is now mobilising the rig to the Jackson-4 L4 3154 well location.

“It was a pleasure to be on site with the Blue Star team for the start of this development drilling campaign,” added chief executive Lorna Blaisse.

“To have encountered free gas in the Upper Lyons Sandstone formation of Jackson-31 is a very positive start indeed and we look forward to the well test results and completion as we advance towards helium production.”
