GreenRoc Mining plc said it had started Phase II drilling at its Amitsoq graphite project and outlined field work for the summer/autumn programme at the Thule Black Sands ilmenite project in Greenland.
AMITSOQ
The company added that planned drilling at Amitsoq in southern Greenland is targeting one of the highest grade graphite deposits in the world.
The programme, expected to take some 12 weeks, is designed to upgrade and increase of the current initial JORC resource of 8.28Mt at 19.75% graphitic carbon (C(g)).
THULE BLACK SANDS (TBS)
GreenRoc’s summer/autumn field work, due to start during Q3 2022, aims to fast-track TBS to mine development on the northwest coastline of the country.
Newly appointed chief executive Stefan Bernstein added that the company would focus on collecting other datasets essential to the environmental and social impact assessments.
Environmental impact assessment (EIA) consultants, BioApp Greenland, will begin second-year environmental baseline studies, providing the foundation to development an EIA.
Social impact assessment (SIA) workshops will also start, managed by SIA consultants NIRAS A/S (NIRAS).
These form part of the process for obtaining an exploitation licence.
In early August, GreenRoc expects assay results from the 249-hole 2021 drilling campaign at TBS.
The company said it hoped that the independent competent person’s revised assessment of the drill results, due by September, would enlarge the current mineral resource of 19Mt at 8.9% in-situ ilmenite.
SLR Consulting will undertake preliminary studies on mining methods and processing plant options for both TBS and Amitsoq.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL STUDIES
GreenRoc has also contracted the Greenlandic National Museum and Archives to conduct an archaeological survey over TBS.
The company said that large areas of Greenland had not yet been mapped with respect to their archaeological features.
The survey is due to start in late July and is a necessary element for the EIA.
OBJECTIVE
Mr Bernstein added that fast tracking TBS and Amitsoq towards development status was a key aim for the company this year.
“Our objective by the end of this summer is for Amitsoq to join TBS in having had the bulk of exploration activities completed so that we can focus thereafter on completing the regulatory and scoping studies which will enable exploitation licences to be applied for at both assets.”
GREENROC
GreenRoc holds and operates projects including Thule Black Sands ilmenite, Amitsoq graphite, Melville Bay iron and Inglefield mutli-elements.
