Europa submits plans for Cloughton appraisal

Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) plc has submitted a planning application for an appraisal well for the Cloughton gas field in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Operator and 40% licence owner Europa estimates Cloughton has Pmean gross gas initially in place volumes of 192bcf.

The company said it had also started a community engagement website for the appraisal as well as its application to drill at the Burniston Mill site.

The planning application, submitted last month, also includes restoration of the site and agricultural land.

The drill rig will be on site for 50 days for a nine-month operation, with a 1% increase in heavy goods vehicles and borehole monitoring day and night.

Work will be in four phases beginning with site construction over seven weeks followed by drilling for around seven weeks.

Well analysis and completion design followed by one to two days of proppant squeeze and flow testing will take up to 17 weeks before well decommissioning, site restoration and aftercare lasting six weeks.

Cloughton, within PEDL343, was previously operated by project partner Edgon Resources until July 2023.

The licence contains two adjacent blocks of TA09, along the east coast north of Scarborough, and to its west SE99a, covering a total 110km2.

In February 2024, the North Sea Transition Authority granted a two-year extension to PEDL343.

Egdon holds 40% of the licence and Petrichor Partners LP owns 20%.
