EGT appoints Cathal Friel as chairman

European Green Transition plc has appointed its co-founder Cathal Friel as its non-executive chairman, with immediate effect.

Mr Friel, who replaces Daniel Akselson, has more than 20 years’ experience in corporate finance and merger and acquisitions.

He was previously chairman of hVIVO plc (formerly Open Orphan plc), before which he co-founded Amryt Pharma plc which later sold for $1.48 billion in 2023.

Mr Friel is also co-founder and chairman of Poolbeg Pharma plc and managing director of Raglan Capital, which he founded in 2007.

He is EGT’s largest shareholder and has helped move the company from exploration and mining to acquiring revenue-generating businesses.

Mr Akselson remains on the board as a non-executive director and head of the audit committee.

He also continues to support monetisation of EGT’s exploration projects, specifically the Olserum rare earth project in Sweden.
