Egdon refused more time for N. Kelsey well

Egdon Resources plc has been refused more time to drill the North Kelsey-1 exploration oil well in Lincolnshire.

Compelling: Lincolnshire County Council’s planning officer recommended approval (Egdon Resources)

APPEAL

The company had applied for a further 12-month extension to the existing planning permission from 2020.

Managing director Mark Abbott said that the company would appeal against the county council’s decision.

“The decision of the planning committee is disappointing given the clear current need for the UK to secure further indigenous supplies of energy to reduce its reliance on imports, the compelling case presented and the positive recommendation of Lincolnshire County Council’s planning officer.

“Given this, we will bring forward an appeal against this decision without delay and will provide further updates in due course.”

DISTURBING

Union Jack Oil plc holds a 50% economic interest in PEDL241 containing the North Kelsey-1 well site.

Executive chairman David Bramhill described the council’s decision as “rather odd and disturbing” given current world events.

“A compelling case was presented by the operator and a positive recommendation was made by Lincolnshire County Council’s planning officer.”
