Cornish Metals appoints James Whiteside as NED

Cornish Metals Inc has appointed James Whiteside as a non-executive director to the board, effectively immediately.

The appointment follows the Canadian company’s approximately £56 million fundraise via a placing of 700m new common shares and retail offer for its South Crofty tin project in the village of Pool near Cambourne.

Results of the fundraise gives current shareholder Vision Blue Resources Ltd 29.14% of the total voting rights and the National Wealth Fund Ltd 28.50%.

Mr Whiteside, the NWF’s nominated representative, is a director in banking and investments at NWF where he is responsible for critical minerals.

He spent the first decade of his career at Lloyds Banking Group before joining the NWF in August 2022.

Mr Whiteside developed the NWF’s first critical minerals investment strategy and conducted the NWF’s first direct equity deal.

He holds a Bachelors degree from the University of York and was named Young Finance Professional of the Year at the 2024 Insider Yorkshire Young Professionals Awards.

Mr Whiteside is currently a director in J Whiteside Ltd, Cornish Lithium plc and Beechwood (Block V) Management Company Ltd.

He does not currently hold any shares in Cornish Metals.

The NWF is the publicly owned “sovereign wealth fund” of the United Kingdom.
