Cornish Metals appoints Don Turvey as CEO

Cornish Metals Inc has appointed Don Turvey as chief executive officer and a director of the company, effective 1 September.

He will relocate from South Africa to Cornwall subject to approval of a UK work visa.

Mr Turvey is a mining executive with more than 40 years’ experience including in production, project execution, business development, and minerals resource management.

Since 2008, he has been CEO of mining companies, funding and taking new projects and historic mines to production, as well as leading a number of M&A transactions.

Prior to this, Mr Turvey spent more than 20 years at BHP Billiton where, among other roles, he was general manager and vice president project development leading project, geological, mineral resource and financial analyst teams.

He was also CEO of Continental Coal Ltd from May 2010 to February 2014, which entered into a 90-day standstill arrangement with its creditors in February 2014 before liquidation in 2016.

Mr Turvey holds a Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Pretoria, and a Masters in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa.

Following Mr Turvey’s appointment, Patrick Anderson will return to the position of non-executive chair of the board and Ken Armstrong as non-executive director.

Mr Turvey currently holds no common shares in Cornish Metals.
