Cornish Lithium Ltd will evaluate suitable sites for geothermal lithium production and heat on land owned one of the county’s leading businesses.
RESEARCH BOREHOLE
The company has signed an exclusive agreement with Rodda’s to assess land owned by the Cornish clotted cream producer.
Cornish Lithium will design and drill a small research borehole, similar in scale to the one that the company is currently near Twelveheads.
“Once completed, Cornish Lithium will test the borehole to demonstrate the viability of a commercial scale geothermal lithium and heat project,” said the company in a statement.
Rodda’s would use the resulting renewable geothermal heat potentially to decarbonise production processes at its Scorrier-based creamery near Redruth.
Cornish Lithium and Rodda’s will discuss their plans with local communities before Cornish Lithium applies for planning permission for the research borehole from Cornwall Council.
