Cornish Lithium Ltd said it wanted to drill more holes after finding samples of lithium as well as copper and tin at United Down mines in Cornwall.

The company drilled two large holes from which samples tested to reveal micas of lithium from water in the mines.
Founder and chief executive Jeremy Wrathall said the company aimed to develop a technique using global technologies to extract lithium from the water and create a lithium industry for the UK.
“We also want to drill some more holes in different locations to prove that there could be other areas which could be very prospective for lithium.
“We’re really encouraged by the results from our first two drilling programmes both for lithium-enriched geothermal waters at United Downs and lithium in granite rock at Trelavour.
“In addition we’ve also seen some exciting occurrences of other metals such as copper and tin and we intend to continue our work to explore Cornwall’s potential for metals which are vital to modern technologies.”
