Canadian mining company Strongbow, exploring for copper-tin deposits at South Crofty in Cornwall, has started trading under its new name of Cornish Metals.
The company is also expanding the drill programme to United Downs following the recent high grade copper-tin discovery.
“The renaming to Cornish Metals is a reflection of our dedication to revitalising an industry which means so much to the people of Cornwall,” said chief executive officer Richard Williams.
“The objective is to bring tin and copper mining back to Cornwall, to create well-paid, highly skilled jobs hand in hand with the community, with an emphasis on hiring locally wherever possible.
“Our guiding principle is to ensure we attain the highest standards for health, safety, and the environment, and to continue collaborating with all stakeholders.”
Cornish Metals, an associate company of Osisko Mining Corporation in Toronto, is building a portfolio of strategic metals assets in North America as well as the UK.
The company has a valid licence for South Crofty until 2071 and planning permission to construct a new surface process plant and water discharge.
The project has numerous shafts preserved for future mining activity and a high-grade NI 43-101 mineral resource estimate.
Cornish Metals plans to complete a feasibility study before deciding whether it will begin production.
