Cairn Energy plc announced an oil find on the joint venture Sayulita exploration prospect in Block 10 in the mid-deep water of the Cuenca Salina/Sureste Basin, offshore Mexico.
The company added that preliminary estimates state that the new find may contain between 150 and 200Mboe in place.
Cairn holds a 15% working interest through its subsidiary Capricorn Energy Mexico alongside Eni (operator, 65%) and Lukoil (20%).
PROPERTIES
The find came through Sayulita-1 EXP, the seventh successful well drilled by Eni offshore Mexico in the Cuenca Salina/Sureste Basin and the second commitment well of Block 10.
It is located approximately 70km off the coast and 15km from the previous oil discovery of Saasken which will be appraised towards the end of 2021.
Eni reported that Sayulita-1 EXP found 55 meters of net pay of good quality oil in the Upper Miocene sequences with reservoirs showing “excellent” petrophysical properties.
Data acquired indicate a production capacity for the well of up to approximately 3,000 barrels of oil per day.
