Botswana SJV completes initial orientation for REEs

The rare earth elements 50-50 strategic joint venture between Kavango Resources plc and Power Metal Resources plc has completed the first stage of orientation work at Ditau Camp, Botswana.

Joint venture: Kavango Resources and Power Metal Resources plan an exploratory drill this year (ars.usda.gov/is/graphics/photos/jun05/d115-1)

The work included geophysical and geochemical surveys at the site covering two prospecting licences of PL169/2012 and PL010/2019.

Power Metal said that orientation work was conducted on magnetitic anomaly ‘I10’, the first of ten geophysical ‘ring structures’ previously identified at Ditau. Each ring structure is believed to have the potential to host carbonatite rocks which are the principal source of rare earth elements (REEs).

The SJV plans follow-up surveys during mid-January before and extensive geophysical surveying and soil sampling in the first or second quarter of 2021. An exploratory drill campaign is anticipated in Q2/Q3 2021 depending on the success of the exploration.

Carbonatites are the main source of REEs including Neodymium (Nd) and Praseodymium (Pr) used to manufacture magnets and electric vehicles.
