Block starts drilling well extension to test 200 MMbbls in Patardzeuli oil field

Block Energy plc has started drilling on the JSR-01DEEP well, an extension to the JSR-01 well, to test contingent resources of over 200 million barrels (MMbbls) in the Patardzeuli oil field in Block XIB in Georgia.

Well: JSR-01DEEP is evaluating an undrained part of the deeper zones of the Middle Eocene reservoir (Block Energy)

PROJECT II

The start of operations marks the beginning of Project II of the company’s three-project strategy in Georgia.

Block Energy added that the well was self-funded using cash generated from existing operations.

JSR-01DEEP

JSR-01DEEP well is the first of a series evaluating undrained parts of the deeper zones of the Middle Eocene reservoir, with 3D-seismic data indicating “a zone of fractured corridors”.

The well will test contingent resources of over 200 MMbbls as defined by Block Energy’s technical team.

“Drilling involves extending the existing JSR-01 well, in the Patardzeuli oil field in Block XIB, which penetrated only the upper 55 metres of the reservoir,” said the company in a statement.

“The reservoir is over 600 metres thick in the Patardzeuli field and has produced over 100 MMbbls of oil.”

Chief executive Paul Haywood added that results of the drill programme would guide the company in how it progresses Project II.
