Anglesey to send Parys drill samples for assay

Anglesey Mining plc said it expected to submit drill core samples for assay later this month from its copper-zinc-lead-silver-gold project at Parys Mountain on Anglesey, North West Wales.

DRILLING

Infill drilling of the White Rock and Engine Zone deposits continues with four of the nine planned holes finished and the fifth due for completion towards the end of March.

CORE SAMPLES

The company also continues work on the existing mine buildings with the core logging and sampling shed now operational.

This has allowed geological logging of the drill core to start.

Core samples will be sent to the ALS assay laboratory in Ireland with results expected during Q2 2022, depending on any backlogs.

PLANNING APPLICATION

Anglesey Mining said it had completed its review of previous environmental studies ahead of submitting a planning application.

This will determine the requirements for an environmental assessment and permits for a new underground mine producing copper, zinc and lead concentrates, with gold and silver credits.

TESTWORK

Core from the current drilling programme will be used to conduct pre-concentration testwork and subsequent comminution and flotation studies.

Discussions continue with tailings specialists to determine the optimal design for storage.

The company said successful pre-concentration of the ore would significantly reduce the volume of tailings produced.

PERMITTING

Chief executive Jo Battershill added that the metallurgical testwork programme would take several months to complete.

“The environmental and tailings work programmes are both critical to the permitting requirements for restarting operations at Parys Mountain, subsequently we would expect to see activity levels start to increase as we receive feedback from the North Wales Mineral and Waste Planning Services.”

Parys Mountain has a 2020 reported resource of 5.2 million tonnes at 4.3% combined base metals in the indicated category, and 11.7Mt at 2.8% combined base metals in the inferred category.
