Obituary – Anglesey deputy chairman-former CEO Bill Hooley

Anglesey Mining’s deputy chairman and non-executive director D. William (Bill) Hooley, who had more than fifty years’ experience in minerals operations and management, died suddenly on 7 June 2022.

He previously held the post of chief executive officer of the company from 2006 to 2021.

From 2007, Mr Hooley was also a director and deputy chairman of Anglesey Mining’s associate company Labrador Iron Mines (LIM).

There he also served as president and chief operating officer from 2007 to 2011, during which time he directed the initial development and successful construction, into commercial production, of LIM’s James iron ore mine in Labrador, Canada.

Mr Hooley, who was born in 1947, had a long and successful career with mining and service companies throughout the world, including extensive experience in Australia, Canada and the UK.

He was previously managing director of Micon International Ltd from 2000 to 2005.

In addition, he held various management and executive posts with mining and service companies in the UK and Australia from 1975 to 1999.

TRIBUTE

On behalf of Anglesey Mining’s board, chairman John Kearney said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of our colleague and friend Bill Hooley.

“Bill was instrumental to the advancement of Anglesey and its Parys Mountain mine project during his time as chief executive between 2006 and 2021, and subsequently continued to provide valued advice and experience to the company and the board as deputy chairman.

“Bill’s wise counsel, friendship, dry humour, and loyalty will be sadly missed.

“We send our sincere condolences to Bill’s wife, daughter and family.”
