Altona exercises Sesana option

Altona Rare Earths plc has exercised its option to acquire up to 85% in the Sesana copper-silver project within PL2329/2023 in Botswana’s Kalahari copper belt.

The company and vendor Ignate African Minerals (Pty) Ltd are expected to sign the final agreement shortly.

Altona said that activities relating to Botswana environmental and administrative processes have started, as has planning for exploration.

The company also reported corporate changes with non-executive director Audrey Mothupi stepping down from 1 August, after three years on the board.

“I would like to extend my personal thanks to Audrey for her very professional service to the board of Altona,” said chairman Martin Wood.

“Her experienced and thoughtful approach to all aspects of board work is impressive and her ability to build great working relationships with everyone made it a pleasure to work with her.

“I wish Audrey the best luck for the future and hope we can work together again.”

The company has appointed Kristoffer Andersson as a board non-executive director, effective 1 August.

Mr Andersson is an economist experienced in the renewable energies, mining, commodity trading and natural resources sectors, as well as investment banking in emerging markets in Latin America and Africa.

He has served on the board of directors for private and public companies across various industries.

Mr Andersson co-founded Ashmont Resources Corp and is currently chief executive officer of Ironveld plc.

Altona also plans to hold a general meeting 20 August 2024.
