Alba to explore for up to 3.6Mt graphite at Amitsoq

Alba Mineral Resources plc said it had identified an exploration target for 1.3 to 3.6 million tonnes of contained graphite at its two deposits in the Amitsoq project, southern Greenland.

An independent detailed assessment for each of the Amitsoq and Kalaaq deposits, together comprising the Amitsoq graphite project, revealed a “significant exploration target.”

Results show the volume and grade ranges for:

Amitsoq exploration targets are between 1.7 and 4.5 million tonnes (assuming a density of 2.63t/m3) with a grade range of between 24-36% graphitic carbon, for between 408,000 and 1,620,000 tonnes of contained graphite; and

Kalaaq area: the combined blue and orange units represent the upper volumetric limit for the exploration target (Alba Mineral Resources)

Kalaaq exploration targets are between 4.0 and 7.0 million tonnes (assuming a density of 2.63t/m3) with a grade range of between 23-29% graphitic carbon, for between 920,000 and 2,030,000 tonnes of contained graphite.

DRILL PROGRAMME

Alba said that in accordance with the JORC Code (2012), the potential quantity and grade of both exploration targets was conceptual in nature.

The miner added that there had been insufficient exploration to estimate a mineral resource and it was uncertain if further exploration would result in an estimation.

A forthcoming drilling programme will aim to declare the first JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate at the Amitsoq deposit.

Executive chairman George Frangeskides said that Alba had commissioned the assessment to support the existence of significant tonnage potential at the project.

“Having now declared an initial exploration target of between 1.3 to 3.6 million tonnes of contained graphite for the two deposits combined, this gives us great confidence to move forward to a drilling programme at Amitsoq.”

The company recently conducted a test work programme which confirmed that the graphite had exceptionally high average grades and was also battery grade material.

Alba commissioned Dr John Arthur (CGeol FGS) to prepare an exploration target for each of the Amitsoq and Kalaaq deposits.
